Corten steel - Rust surface with a protective layer

Corten is a type of steel that weathers naturally over time and builds up an attractive rust together with a protective film. This is a paradox because, despite being somewhat rusty, the surface is protected against further corrosion. In other words, the rust was allowed to develop to form a protective film. This protective one is produced under the influence of active elements in the steel alloy. It constantly renews itself under the influence of water and oxygen.

Flake-like surface

This decorative, petal-like surface adds extra texture to the surface; The design allows the corten rust to form over the petals, but is still clearly visible. The petals also direct the water into other interesting ways while being slightly elevated.

Rusting process

The pictures above show the decoration at the beginning of the process and during the formation of the rust. It will reach you with a flash of steel, similar to other fountains made of stainless steel. If you wish, you can speed up the rusting process by using a cloth by rubbing the surface with salt and / or vinegar. However, of course, the frame will still keep its shiny appearance.
